One report is that F/O Finley Allan Nixon, RCAF J35861, 438 Sqn while flying Typhoon RB226 F3-H, was shot by flak south of Geldern, Germany on February 14, 1945. He was captured and sent to the POW camp Stalag VII A north of Moosburg near Munich.
In his obituary, which ran in late April 2006, F. Allan Nixon was a teenager when he signed up with the RCAF and trained in Lennoxville, then went overseas to fly Typhoons. "He was shot down on February 14, 1945 and spent time in a POW camp. He was repatriated after the war to England where he met [his future wife] Phyllis, who was in the army administration in London. They were married when they returned to Canada. After the war, Allan took an apprenticeship program in tool and dye making. He and Phyllis moved around Quebec and in 1952, Allan rejoined the air force auxilliary in Sherbrooke, Quebec, as air weapons fighter controller. Allan and Phyllis retired in 1974 and moved to Sidney, BC, where he worked as a finishing carpenter on large yachts, Canoe Cove Boat Works." He was a handyman and enjoyed golf and square dancing. He and Phyllis did not have children of their own, but were loved by their nieces and nephews.
